my work is hosting a fancy meal for some donors later this week and they assigned us to do table setting and prep (???) but the supplies they provided us with are like. powerfully and intensely 1970’s grandma chic. it’s revolting.

photo of some repulsively orange and yellow paper and plastic dining ware with grotesque orange checkered and flowered mats and ribbonsALT

complete with old food residues. my coworkers are trying to fix it but I want to make it worse.

Is it old food residue or “just” bubbled/flaky disintegrating/degraded plastic? Either way is absolutely not healthy for consumption but that’s just how old plasticware was. Now I’m kind of cringing to think of how much microplastics I consumed because it came off the side of the 20+ year old tupperware I was using in my childhood!

It doesn’t come off with intensive scrubbing and soap so I think it probably is degradation. Microplastics and lead glass, oh my!
